The USS Hornet
|
|

Arrival. The USS Hornet is BIG,
too big to fit on one picture... |

...and with lots of interesting things to look at. |

The ships bell greets you at the entrance. |

While wandering around gets you the the slightly macabre
'ultimate scorecard'. |

Mr. Keith LaDue was the master of ceremonies for our visit. He
loves the Hornet and inspires respect for her in the the
troops. |

On board, you are surrounded by the history of ships, not
just this Hornet, but all of them, dating back to 1775. |

Why is this scout smiling? |

Matt (honorary SPL) peeks out from behind a planes window. |

Known as 'the Chief' to his friends and as 'the Enforcer' to
us. |

Interesting sign; you wouldn't think they would have to post
such. |

Matt, Mr. Lorenzen and Steve. |

Seems like everyone had fun. |

Of course, some people take their fun seriously! Mr.
Stallman and Mr. Rader prepare to board. |

What have we here? |

The John, Tim, and Michael show. |

Matt and Kyle appear skeptical as the rules of the ship are explained.

Then came the 'mustering out' up on the flight deck. Note
that Manny is talking up the ladies on board...
|

The Island. |

The City from the Hornet.

Who cares about the view when you can play on a 5"
gun?
|
|
|
|

The Chief explains the Command and Control center.
Left, er, right: Learning to write backwards.
|
 |

William in an off-guard moment. |

Go ahead, make my day! |

In answer to the oft-asked question,
"How many gunners does it take to shoot a gun?" |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |

Why bring a towel when you can use the ships dryer? |

You should hear Kyle talk up his family's July Fourth
celebrations! |

Much better late than never. |
|
|
|
|

The flying boat. One of two left in the world. Part of
"Raders of the Lost Ark" was filmed in it. At least
that's what Kyle said. |

The troop boards for a fine flight. |

Inside the flying boat, the service is excellent, dude! |

Oh, oh. Look who's piloting! |

Looks like there is only one way out! |

Well, maybe two! |

The curators love their museum, and they say that they have
a lot more planes coming.
