Welcome to Nukubalav... |
|

Oh, hello there big guy. |

Village Electrical Corp. |
 |

Molly expresses amazement at the
number (15) of wives the village Chief has. |

Everyone greets the Chief.
Here William tells him where home is. |

Molly REALLY liked the Chief. |

Jim and the Chief. |

Even I say hello. Note the covered legs and the bare feet. There was
an entry ritual to the Chiefs Bure; much respect due. |

A better picture of Niumaia. |

Milling around outside of the Chief's Bure
(looks like a house to me). |

More milling... |
 |
 |

Rugby is big in Fiji. Here the local village hangs 'em out to dry. |
|

I was, er, flattered to be one of the elders representing the rag-tag
bunch of tourists at the Kava ceremony. |

Look at the serious concentration
put into the ceremony. |

Making of the Kava.
The powdered root is put into a cloth bag and soaked in the water.
Then the bag is wrung out into the bowl and soaked again, and again.
Eventually, the Kava has the consistency and strength required. |

Note that the women and men are separate in the ceremony. |

Everybody enjoys a good party. |
